The sparrow´s nest

In the window entwined with green plants, which leads from the patio to the kitchen, Nicolás often sits and drinks his mate. From a calabash through a bombilla, a hollowed-out gourd as a drinking vessel with a metal straw. The traditional beverage is part of his morning ritual.
Not to mention the thermos jug, in order to newly pour the mate at any time.
Nico has laughingly described people who have been spotted drinking mate on their bikes and renewing the brew during the ride.
As a beginner I’m trying it at the table under the glass roof, which lets in so much light into this beautifully renovated house from 1920 and in which it is so calm, because it is located in the middle of a block.
We are in the Palermo district. Low colonial style houses, tree-lined cobblestone streets, colorful boutiques rich in design and stylish bars. Beginning about ten years ago, artists, designer and shop owners transformed this district into a hip quarter.
Here is also the sparrow´s nest. Gorrion is the Spanish word for sparrow and it is the label which was founded by the architect Nicolás and the designer Pablo Attolini. They make high-quality clothing, bags and accessories, only locally made and with respect for the environment and fair trade. Nico cycles every morning in this colorful place…generally without mate.
