Carolina Antoniadis & Alvaro Sarrabayrousé / Buenos Aires
Wer an Sonntagen über einen der berühmten Trödelmärkte von Buenos Aires schlendert, könnte dabei auf Carolina und Alvaro treffen. Hier findet Carolina Inspiration und hin und wieder ein neues Stück für eine ihrer Sammlungen, die aus unzählig vielen kleinen Schätzen bestehen.
Das sammeln von Teekannen nennt sie ihre größte Extravaganz. In allen Formen und Dekors reihen sich die inzwischen 44 Teekannen in der Küche aneinander. Jetzt kann ich nicht mehr, lacht sie, es ist kein Platz mehr frei.
Das Auge hat viel zu entdecken in diesen mit Liebe gestalteten Räumen. Immer wieder fallen mir auch asiatische Elemente auf. Diese bringt sie gerne von ihren Ausflügen nach Chinatown mit.
Die asiatischen Figuren begegnen uns im Studio und auf ihren Bildern wieder.
Viel Tageslicht fällt durch die Oberlichter in diesen riesigen Raum, den sie gerade mit ihrem Mann, dem Architekten Alvaro, neu bezogen hat. Perfekt für die großen Formate, die sie bevorzugt. An der Wand lehnen einige dieser in leuchtenden Farben bemalten Leinwände. Darauf stehen Figuren wie auf einer schiefen Ebene und scheinen gleich aus dem Bild zu rutschen.
Neben den großformatigen Bildern liebt Carolina die Gestaltung des öffentlichen Raumes und bemalt ausserdem Keramikobjekte mit den ihr typischen Motiven, wie den Figuren ohne Gesicht.
Somit kommt glücklicherweise auch etwas in meine Sammlung, was `muy Antoniadis´ ist.

Muy Antoniadis
Anyone who strolls around the famous antique and flea markets of Buenos Aires on a Sunday might well meet Carolina and Alvaro there. This is where Carolina finds inspiration and occasionally a new piece for her collections, which are made up of countless little treasures.
She refers to the collection of teapots as her biggest extravagance, and her kitchen now contains 44 of them, displaying all sorts of shapes and decorative styles. However, she now laughingly admits that she can’t collect any more of them – there simply isn’t enough space.
There is a great deal to discover in these lovingly designed rooms. For example, I repeatedly notice far-eastern elements, which she brings home from her trips to Chinatown.
We encounter these far-eastern figures both in her studio and in her paintings.
The roof lights flood with daylight this huge space, which she has recently moved into with her husband, the architect Alvaro. It is perfect for the large formats which she prefers. A number of these canvases with their vibrant colors lean against the wall, with the figures on them seeming to be on a slope and ready to slide out of the painting.
In addition to large-format paintings Carolina loves the design of public spaces and also paints ceramic objects with her typical motives, such as figures without a face.
In this way something which is `muy Antoniadis´ fortunately comes to be added to my collection.
