Cubos Mutantes

Gaston Liberto / Barcelona

Cubos Mutantes

The chairs in front of the gallery appear magical. People are constantly sitting there for a short time. Perhaps because it is pleasant cool here, because we’re in a very small alleyway where it’s quite dark and shady even during the day.
That’s why this place isn’t easy to find too. Gaston laughs and says the alleyway is black on Google. This doesn’t surprise me, the alleys in Barrio Gotico are like a labyrinth. But at some point someone will look around the corner and discover the life-sized cubos mutantes. The painted and mobile wooden cubes make a combination of people, technology, vision, creation, and machines freely selectable.
Because all of the art that inspires him comes from Europe, Gaston moved to Barcelona more than ten years ago with his wife. Before that, he studied art and philosophy in Argentina and founded a circus troupe that is still active today.
I like the poetry in his images. `Las nubes caminan despacio´ (The clouds drift slowly) is written on a large picture that he is currently working on. It is a combination of illustrations by father and son, because little Julio is also an artist.
