Supplementenkiste

Lisa Rienermann + Freerk Heinz / Berlin

Miscellaneous box

Some of the boxes which Lisa had received from the Natural History Museum had hand written labels on them containing the words miscellaneous box. These were the boxes which had not yet been sorted and which had been used to store collections of insects. The term miscellaneous box is also an strikingly good description of Lisa herself because she loves the processes of collecting, archiving, discovering and researching things. This leads her to create a constantly changing series of new installations and mini exhibitions in her apartment.
For research purposes she has also now painted each of her finger nails in a different color. Amongst the many results of this experiments which can be seen today in the lovely books of an explorers-series for which she did the graphic design work.
The freelance writer Freerk on the other hand loves making his voyages of discovery on his motor bike. He has returned from each of these trips with a whole series of exciting new stories ready to commit to writing. His travels all the way across Europe the desert of enthusiasm will surely bring him back to Morocco again soon – Inshallah.
On my journey of discovery through the apartment I find again the boxes of insects which have been arranged to form a table in front of the sofa as well as other do-it-yourself items of furniture: A tree stump has been turned into an occasional table and one of the stools looks as though it had originally been used in a sports hall. This extensive apartment in one of Berlin’s historic buildings really has therefore been turned into a case of a miscellaneous box.
