Minifundium

Axel Kranz / Berlin

Minifundium

Front building, rear building, and only then the summerhouse. We’re in Berlin and today I’m visiting a colleague, a photographer. Saying: `Welcome to my minifundia´ Axel cordially opens a door to the summerhouse. While a latifundium is an extensive landed estate, a minifundium is probably the opposite. While this may be true in terms of square meters, the longer I stay there, however, the more unsuspected things there are to be discovered. Axel´s style never fails to impress and I immediately believe him when he says that it has taken a lot of time and effort to gather all the things together. Much of it carried off in other times or from distant lands.
The host’s humor is as sharp as his cat’s claws, with which I had to become acquainted. ‚Women belong in the kitchen´, is not something I would have wanted to subscribe to before that visit, but they were hanging in Axel´s kitchen. As if they had stepped from a 1950s film, a young Ruth Leuwerik and other ladies. The one exception to the troupe of women: Andy, the stool with the Warhol hair-style. One comes across the gentlemen consequently on the walls of the living room. Only his photography seems to be missing here.
